The song Dirty Old Town is a heartfelt tale of a man thinking about the town he grew up in. He remembers all the great memories that happened when he was younger, but as he looks at the town now, he notices that it is atypical British industrial city with factories and smoke in the air - a “dirty old town.”
Ironically, I went back to my hometown last weekend. We had a hockey game nearby and we took a ride through town, It is a very pretty town, not a "dirty old town" by any stretch, but it just felt really drab and boring. I liked seeing the ice rink where I first skated, and my old coach, and even the guy that used to sharpen my skates. They were all just as I remembered them. But, it doesn't compare to living in a place with the energy that Boston and Concord have.
